isn’t it all?

Tristan

Ah, yesterday, when I was Jung. Yesterday was sit around the apartment all day after getting drenched in the morning rain. Yes it was a drag and I just didn’t want to deal with anyone in the outside world. No guilt involved, and hardly any paranoia due to the fact that my Rasta pal Jesse is incommunicado which to me sounds like he got popped and might not have had the proper documentation to remain here. I always think the worst. So it’s been a few days without being in a daze due to the lack of Jazzy cigarettes in my life. Maybe it will be an experiment, yet again. Bring on the apocalyptic dreams!

Finally watched ‘The Saint of 9/11’ with Bill. A documentary about the life of Father Mychal Judge who seemed like a really cool guy. I recommend that if you have a chance to see it, to see it. Of course we watched some of the Law and Order SVU marathon, then we watched ‘Dexter’ on Showtime starring Michael C. Hall formerly of ‘Six Feet Under’. He plays a serial killer who kills serial killers. So it’s justified somewhat. It’s a dark comedy of course, very macabre and twisted. Right up my alley. Despite struggling to keep my eyes open due to the fact that I had gone to two parties in three days, I watched ‘The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman’ on IFC, which was hilarious and also highly recommended by me.

Waking up was a chore and of course the first thing that came to mind was to call in sick but having done that last week, I dare not repeat myself. I did the puttering around the apartment while Bill merely walked around. He wasn’t going in today, he was working on an Italian movie again, a non-union gig which meant no SAG card for our Bill. He was fine with it and so was I. I kept texting him wishing him well, to break a leg, and to ‘Knock it out da box’. He appreciated my support and he appreciated me, which was a good way to start the day for the both of us.

Work was no fun today. Some days it actually is, but not today. Felicia made it in today before I was which was disconcerting. I do enjoy the quietude of the morning before anyone comes in and seeing her there in the kitchen threw me for a loop. I had forgotten that the humpy phone guy was due in at 8:00AM, which was the reason she was in. Not to see the humpy phone guy (not her type) but to actually show him the work he had to do in the office. People dribbled in as the morning went on, and I was able to help Betty Bacall who was running late and didn’t want to be on the list of who’s out and who’s running late that I send out most every morning. Hi Betty Bacall, you know who you are.

Walked around for a spell with Amiable Alan from the office who is going through the same shit I had gone through and still go through from time to time. He’s a sweetheart, if only he’d see that within himself. I’m sure he will. I was more than happy to lend him an ear and a shoulder for support. The day kept crawling and Felicia who had a Yom Kippur dinner to attend at her step grandmother’s on the upper east side, or so she said, had to leave early at 4:00 and left at 3:00 instead which pissed Linda off and once again I got sucked into the vortex of drama between her and Felicia. I just don’t want anything getting back to me. And I can’t help but feel that it probably will. Such drama.

I made a beeline out of there at 6:00 and instead of walking to the World Trade Center smoking a cigar, I walked up to 33rd Street instead, puffing on a Padron 5000 annoying tons of trendoids on Sixth Avenue. Got a seat on the Path and tried once again to get into the biography of Marcel Duchamp that I’m going to have to return to the library soon enough.

Now I am home and still without the PC which was something I tried fixing yesterday but since I am technically inept I was unable to do anything. Trying to reload a wireless card that kept loading at 20% for over an hour I gave up. Bill’s watching Law and Order in the next room as I type on his Mac. Thank you Bill.

Girls on TV

So I took a day off from writing yesterday. I felt I deserved it. Actually was hanging out with Juan last night in Jersey City and he asked if I blogged and I was just so busy yesterday I totally forgot about it. It was a busy day, still recovering somewhat from the office party on Thursday, Friday night was just mainly flat lining on the couch. Bill to my surprise went into the city to Union Square to participate in the drummer’s circle despite the falling temperatures. That was fine by me, some alone time just watching TV was almost what the doctor ordered.

There was a plan to go to see the final day of an art show with Roda. Leave it to us to wait for the last day to go see it. It happened before a few years ago when we tried to see the Jean Michel Basquiat show at the Brooklyn Museum. We wound up not going in and waiting for three hours. This time was different. Rand had joined us and the three of us walked to the Path train together. Both Roda and I were hungry and Rand felt he could’ve eaten as well, but it was midafternoon and all the cafes and restaurants were jam packed.

The show at Deitch Projects was by Michel Gondry, director of several Bjork videos as well as ‘The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and more recently, ‘The Science of Sleep’ I hadn’t seen either film but I do enjoy his videos.

It was a lot of fun, and very interactive. Quite a few of the pieces were handmade out of corrugated box materials, and string. Clips of ‘The Science of Sleep’ were set up on various monitors. One was on a piano that corresponded with an image of someone playing the key that you would play in the ‘real’ world. Gael Garcia Bernal from ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ is in the film and there was a door peephole where you looked through into a hallway watching Bernal and various other people exiting and entering an apartment across the hall. That was in a room that was recreated from the film. A very crowded and messy room with posters of the Cure and the Clash on the wall. That looked somewhat familiar.

All in all it was a lot of fun like I said. I love going to art galleries and looking at art. I find the best art makes me laugh out loud. And there were more than a few laughs going on in the crowded gallery besides my own. A sense of wonderment, looking at items from a movie that I really want to go see now. It would’ve been nice if Juan could join us, but he was coming up later in the day.

We checked out another show at the other gallery that Deitch Projects has around the corner, featuring three very big art works, one by Robert Rauschenberg, one by David Salle and one by Michael Bevilacqua. I know who Rauschenberg and Salle are, Bevilacqua was new to me. It was another fun show, not crowded at all. Besides the gallery staff of two, there was one other visitor beside Roda, Rand and myself. After that we wandered around, trying in vain once again to find a place where the three of us could sit and have a decent meal. It didn’t work out so Rand and I headed back to Hoboken, leaving Roda to hang out and wait for his cousin Tony who owes me some cigars.

Rand and I strolled along Washington Street and decided to have a few pints at the Farside, a bar at 6th and Washington, where we sat outside and drank and I smoked a cigar. He was going out to dinner with Gigglepuss and Rand’s two sisters and I was heading home when I got a call from Rocky, an old friend inviting me to him and his boyfriend’ apartment in Jersey City. I know Juan and I were going to hook up so I decided to invite Juan. Juan was into it and we drove to Jersey and sat on a different couch for a few hours watching TV. And that’s where this entry all began. The circle of life.
