Still pretty tired from yesterday’s bicycle riding and despite how tired I was last night, I did not sleep well at all. Lot’s of tossing and turning and very little rest. Bill slept like a log of course. He was up early for another bus excursion.

Last night we watched some Beatles stuff on VH-1 after a dosage of Lawn Hors d’œuvre. Basically the last hour of John Lennon: Imagine which has a great scene where John and Yoko are strolling through Central Park and they come across some guy who’s absolutely thrilled to meet THE John Lennon.

Of course he asks when the Beatles are getting back together and John says ‘Tomorrow’ which makes the guy laugh and say ‘You’re full of it.’ The next scenes are about John being brutally murdered at the Dakota in front of his wife.

Bill was off to bed, and I joined him after entering my unemployment claim at 12:01AM. And from there on in it was an uneasy sleep. Woke up, Bill was on the road. I made some coffee and had a cup before deciding to head out in the world.

I was out of coffee and decided to get some more so I wouldn’t need to stress that tomorrow morning. But since the was a holiday weekend, Empire Coffee wasn’t opening until 10:00. There was a young woman standing outside as I walked up and she asked me the time.

I told her, ‘It’s not 10:00!’ She laughed, and I told her the true time, 9:35. Then she asked if there was a Starbucks nearby and I told her there was and set her in that direction.

I decided to do some other errands, bagels, newspapers to pass the time but despite walking a few blocks up and over and getting those items I was still waiting in from of Empire Coffee 10 minutes early, despite taking my time.

This time I waited with some members of the stroller set. I was a gentleman and let them in before me for their lattes, their chai tea before I got my pound of flesh coffee. Then I came home and read and ate and tried to figure out what to do today.

I was still tired and achy from yesterday. I thought about going to Tomkins Square where Rand and Lisa had a table for the Jack Kirby Museum.

Also thought about walking up to Central Park again, this time through the Brazil Day festival on Sixth Avenue. I wound up heading into the city on the Path to 14th Street and walked down the street enjoying a cigar.

Walked by the former Farfetched which is now a black hole of goth. Such a drag. Walked down St. Mark’s Place, surprised to see a new sneaker by Vans, featuring the Pixies, or at least their logo.

Crazy crowded on St. Marks, lot’s of tourists and perhaps NYU students which is basically the same thing. Saw Rand & Lisa and their friend Richard and hung out with them for a while.

Jerri Meyer showed up, former girlfriend of my former roommate Jimmy Lee. Nice to see her, she’s still employed at Sony much to her surprise.

Spent over an hour there and had an enjoyable time. After Tomkins Square I walked over to First Avenue and caught an uptown bus for a quick stop in the office.

I wanted to check Greg Stevens stuff before he came in on Tuesday and all was in order.

Then a walk to the bus terminal, skirting the Brazilian Festival and most of the gawking tourists in Times Square.

Came home, made myself a nice supper and now here I sit, not as tired as earlier but still pretty much tired.

Oh yes it was one of those days, and it was a Tuesday. Nothing to report. Last night, watched O & RM. Actually they were on in the next room, I was here in front of Bill’s Mac.

I did get my own computer back from Rand on Sunday night but haven’t been able to log onto the network. Need Bill here to do that. Some mumbo jumbo, magic numbers and all that.

So for the past few days I’ve been in front of Bill’s Mac, which is fine by me. I’ve become acclimated and generally remember that the TV is no longer to my immediate left.

After listening to O & RM I watched the recording of Heroes at 10:00. I enjoyed it mostly, but once again the last couple of minutes were cut off due to the timing of the DVR, 9:00-10:00.

It happened last week too, but I didn’t mind since last week’s episode was sub-par. Last night I was almost at the edge of my seat when the screen froze, meaning the episode was over for me at least.

I went to bed following the news but find myself still waking up late. Not terribly late and I am in the office before everyone anyway. Just a busy day, running around midtown, doing errands, which is always a good thing. Breaks the day up somewhat.

Before I knew it, it was 3:00 which was almost time to go. A few more things to do before I snuck out 9 minutes earlier than usual. A pleasant walk across town, enjoying a Padron, this time taking the Path train back to Hoboken.

Stopped by Empire Coffee and picked up a few pounds for the office. For every 10 pounds you buy you get one free, which is usually my pound of coffee.

Heard from my brother Brian, telling me the latest woes. Not good news to say the least. His story- not mine so you will have to read his blog and since he doesn’t have one, you ain’t reading anything.

I’m pretty much beat right now, perhaps from all the running around and the change in temperature. Tonight I have to be asleep by 11:30. And up at 6:00 like I used to.

Haven’t seen Casey in a while. He’s back working in midtown and I guess he’s still catching the early bus. So if I play my cards right we may cross paths. If I wake up on time.

Juan just called, he may be in the area tonight and he may stop by. I asked him to give me a call when he gets up here and I’d let him know the status of my mindset.

Tomorrow I am leaving work early to attend a free lecture at Stevens Tech. Dr. Oliver Sacks, author of Musicophilia, Awakenings and The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat. All best sellers by the way.

Rand is promoting it on Facebook and that’s how I found out about it. I’m pretty psyched for it, though I did invite a few local friends but I don’t think many, if any are coming. So at least I’ll see Rand and maybe Lisa too.

I was finally able to watch the Stephen Colbert Christmas Special and it was so great. Very funny. I don’t care what anyone else says, he’s very Jack Benny on it.

That’s it for today. I am tired and my diet pill is wearing off…
(score bonus points if you can identify that last line)

I think I set myself up. Yesterday, I was feeling rather upbeat and positive, today was the test. Last night Bill actually stayed up and watched Weeds. Well he was watching the Olympics and at 10:00 he switched over to Weeds, which was a bit gross yet funny. And Shane is creepy. Bill was grossed out.

Then it was back to the Olympics, Bill caught what’s his name win another gold medal then he was off to bed, me following not too long after that. Woke up a little before 6:00 this morning, and definitely did not want to get out of bed, but still I mustered and headed into the shower.

I continued with the latest routine of heading out before 7:00. Haven’t seen Casey on the bus the past two days, so I’ve just been reading the New Yorker. Headed across town listening to the Raybeats. I was in a decent mood and got to the office a little before 8:00.

Yesterday the phones were a bit fucked up and today was the same. I left work early yesterday and headed to the NYU Dental School and picked up my X-rays and charts to resubmit to Oxford insurance who denied my initial claim. The phones were working when I left.

I made the phone calls on my cellphone to find out what exactly is going on with the phone system. Luckily the company I work for doesn’t do stock trading, they work in mergers and acquisitions so the phones weren’t interfering with the job, calls could still be made on the phones.

Some drama going on with a former partner of Vivek, the managing director and various visitors were showing up, with me only finding out about a minute before. That was nerve wracking and the phones kept crapping out and causing an adverse effect on access to the internet. I could feel whatever positivity draining from my body.

I got through it though, no blood on my hands. Walked across town, had a Padron and listened to the Raybeats again. Nice bus ride, almost finished with Rip It Up by Simon Reynolds. It’s gotten to the point of New Pop, Culture Club, Flock of Seagulls and Spandau Ballet. Just as well since I have those 2 Alan Bennett books waiting for me. Not to mention the countless books I have collected over the years.

Saw Jeff at Empire Coffee which was pleasant. We both chatted about not going to All Points West and had a laugh at the holding pen for drinkers. The allotment of 5 beers over 10 hours seemed ridiculous. It was also a lot better than the last time I was in Empire Coffee.

I interrupted the workers hanging out and I ordered my usual, Brazilian French Roast. The girl said, Brazilian American Roast? I said no, the Brazilian French Roast. ‘So, 3 pounds of the American Roast?’ This went on for a minute or two. I knew I didn’t have aphasia, she was merely daft.

Good to be home now, but I didn’t exactly get a chance to rest since I got a phone call from the office IP, about having to shut down the system for some tests. I tried calling to no avail and finally gave the go ahead to shut it down so they could do what they had to do.

Should make for an interesting morning I think.

Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick

Back to work today and today was hotter than yesterday. Oh it was a real scorcher. I did my best to stay in, but having been away form the office, things needed to get done. So it was off into the sweltering sun, bank deposits needed to be made. I wandered over to Syms where they’re having a big sale non suits.

I checked it out, didn’t see anything to my liking though I did buy a nice set of braces which I look forward to wearing when autumn rolls around. They are autumnal looking. Oh and by the way, braces is another name for suspenders.

Suspenders usually conjures up jokes regarding firemen and red suspenders.

Yesterday I went to Burlington Coat Factory and bought some nice trousers and a nice shirt which I wore today. Unfortunately they were dark colors, and for all the jokes I have made about people wearing dark colors on days like today, I wore dark colors on a day like today.

And I wore some nice looking loafers, but they were the wrong type of shoe to wear while traipsing around midtown in 90 plus degree weather. Now my feet are killing me. Actually they were.

Now I’m ok. Also took a shower when I came home from work which felt great. Basically I am toast right now. Just burnt out from the heat and the sun. Not sunburned though which is a very good thing.

Work wasn’t bad at all. I was told how lost all the people in the office were without me and it showed. No one makes coffee like me. No one could figure out the coffee machine.

I think they will need someone to fill in for me when I take some days off in August. I have to start the ball rolling on that soon enough.

I did have to stop off and pick up coffee for the office so I stopped in at Empire Coffee in Hoboken. I get along really well with Jeff who’s always trying to impress me with the music he plays in the store.

Today he made a point to play the new Beck cd. I had read that it was his best since Sea Change. The thing is, I hated Sea Change. I think I played it once and filed it, never to be heard again. Such a downer.

Jeff explained that it was produced by Danger Mouse, who I like and that the beats were up beat, while Beck’s lyrics were downbeat. Doesn’t seem likely that I would be buying that cd anytime soon.

Jeff is going to see the Vaselines at McSwells tomorrow night and he was super psyched. I wished him well as I walked out the door.

Right now, it’s twilight, the sun sinking over North Bergen and Jersey City in the west. A nice breeze comes in through the window, Rachel Maddow is substituting for Keith Olbermann. She rocks.

I prefer her much more than bellowing Keith Olbermann. She’s nice and very smart and witty. I guess the country isn’t ready for a woman hosting a news program, much less a lesbian hosting one. Their loss is actually, our loss.

Now, Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick. It’s nice to be a lunatic.

Just been thinking about Ian Dury lately.
