There’s A Place

Starting a bit early today. I feel a bit bad. Not physically. Just because I was standoffish towards Bill earlier. Mainly because he made dinner for himself last night and left a sink full of dirty dishes.

I don’t mind washing the dishes if he’s running off to work or theater rehearsals, but there he was on the couch this morning watching Lawn Hors d’œuvre while the dishes sat in the sink.

I got up and made coffee and said loud enough in a Shakespearean manner, ‘Dishes- wash thyself!’ Said it twice actually. It didn’t register with him and I knew the dishes weren’t going to wash themselves so I washed them.

Had crazy dreams last night or rather this morning, one involved a movie that I was working on (in the dream) about Gabriel versus Lucifer. And another involving my brother Brian and I singing at an event somewhere, playing two songs, one of them being Louie Louie.

Bill and I also had a discussion about David Paterson, the governor of New York. Bill sort of thinks that Paterson is getting railroaded. I explained that Paterson was born into the political machine and that he surrounded himself with people who if they weren’t corrupt to begin with, became corrupt since power corrupts absolutely.

Mainly I was grouchy though and that wasn’t too cool. Of course I realize this once Bill has left for the day. He is a jolly good fellow, which nobody can deny.

It is a bright and sunny day though and I plan to go out and enjoy it. I was out earlier, once again to get bagels. Yesterday there was a line and much to my surprise there was an even longer line this morning. I was not in the mood to wait on line again so I just got the paper and came home.

Cablevision and ABC Television have reached an impasse with programming so ABC has withdrew from Cablevision’s programming. It happened at midnight last night. The cable went out for about 15 minutes right in the middle of Saturday Night Live.

I was hoping to catch Vampire Weekend. Not that I am much of a fan, the jury is still out. Out of all the channels the only one broadcasting during those 15 minutes was Cablevision and their message on channel 1999, detailing their side of the story regarding ABC.

Even the DVR crapped out. My solace was the fact that Saturday Night Live wasn’t that good anyhow. I knew the kissing family sketch at the wake would end up with someone kissing the corpse. Just a bad night overall regarding television.

Bill is off work this week. As they get closer to the play’s opening, it’s time to focus on the tech aspects and Bill wouldn’t have the time nor the energy to have the day job and do the play. He has 4 weeks vacation this year so this is one week he’ll be taking. I just found out about it this morning which could have added to my attitude.

We do have something planned for tomorrow possibly, something that I am not going to write about until it happens. Yes I am a tease.

And Soily Maurice posted some crappy comment on the blog. Perhaps she/he/it was drunk or strung out on math, I really couldn’t say. I don’t even know what gender it may happen to be.

I think when she/he/it sobered up she apologized for posting it but it was too late. I don’t need her/his/it’s Susquehanna Investment Group bullshit. Stick to the t-shirt racket Miss Lady Boy, for wit is not your strong suit.

To paraphrase Gertrude Stein, ‘An Asshole is an asshole is an asshole.’

Jeez, was something released into the water supply? I was just on the phone with someone who is anxious for me to check out an iPhone thing. I don’t have an iPhone, Bill does.

Bill and I tried checking this thing the other day and we couldn’t do it right away and decided to try another time. I just got off the phone with this guy who was quite upset that I hadn’t seen it yet, like it will vanish any minute now.

Apparently I’m supposed to be a tyrant and nag Bill to let me use his iPhone to look at an avatar which is probably the same avatar I’ve seen the other day.

It won’t, just the fact that I didn’t jump at the opportunity to use someone else’s iPhone to check out an avatar upset him so much that he wound up saying, ‘forget about it’. I said, OK and then he said good bye and hung up the phone.

Is it astrology or proctology? Sometimes I can’t tell the difference. Especially when I was an asshole this morning.

Speaking of assholes, I admit I instigated the following the other day:

I certainly hope to never hear from you again.
In fact, your last comments will be the last ones to be posted.
Say hello to Michael Hutchence for me.

Then please stop reaching out to me. I unfortunately made the decision to make a comment on your blog. I now see what a mistake it was to try to change the opinion of someone as hard headed as yourself. Good luck John.

Go to hell you stupid thing.

I admit what I wrote was a horrible thing. My apologies to Michael Hutchence and his family.

And she continues:

John,
Again I asked you very nicely to stop reaching out to me. I am done in regards to your blog and hope to not have any contact with you in the future. Telling me to go to hell is just over the top and unacceptable. I feel sorry for you. You seem like an absolutely miserable human being. Now please you go live your life and I will live mine.

Then stop replying dumb ass. Apply a Yahoo filter so you won’t have to read my response.
I’m sure you could figure it out Lady Smug.
I’ve applied a label to your inane holier than thou missives. It certainly sums up how I feel about you.

I pity you John I really do. It must be hard to live such a bitter and miserable life. I really hope you find some happiness.
to which I reply:
I don’t need your pity. I don’t need your prayers.
I have a wonderful man for my partner. I have many good friends and a loving family.
It seems that you are the miserable one. No info on what you have in your life, so I can only guess you have no one. That is sad.
I would say a tragedy, but from what you’ve written and the way you’ve written you more than likely brought it upon yourself. Much like my response.
Stop whining about my responses. I explained, do not reply and you won’t hear from me again.
Yet you continue to reply. I know you’re bitter, but are you really that lonely?

This ‘Sally Mae/Maurice thing feels they could write anything they want, but flying spaghetti monster forbid, I reply and Sally Mae/Maurice gets upset.

Prime Time

It’s Friday. I have spent a good part of the day waiting for Cablevision to come and do something about the cable box. Last night it started making clicking sounds then in the middle of Keith Olbermann it pixilated and froze.

A simple reboot, unplug the box, wait a few minutes then plug in again did the trick. No DVRing available. Not such a bad thing I thought. About an hour later, this time the cable box did it itself.

It stopped and started again all on it’s own.

I called Cablevision. No easy maneuvering through the phone prompts, you have to listen to everything. Don’t even thinking about pressing 1 for English before they tell you to. It will get you nowhere.

I spoke to the customer service representative from Cablevision and scheduled an appointment for today between 11:00AM and 2:00PM. At 1:59 I called up to see what was going on. They said they would call the man in the field and get back to me.

About 20 minutes later, it was confirmed the guy was running late.

He had my cell number and would call me when he was in the neighborhood. At 2:45 I get a call saying that he’s outside. I look out the window and there he is talking to another cable guy halfway down the street.

About 10 minutes later I buzz him in, all hard hat and tool belt. I offered him some water but he didn’t want any. He hit a few buttons on the box, lot’s of different screens popping up on the TV screen. He deduces that he’s going to have to swap this box for a new box.

So he goes back downstairs and comes back a couple of minutes later with another box, with the remnants of a ‘void’ sticker on the front. He sets it up, telling me everything that was on the old box is now gone.

No more Andy Warhol documentary, no more Bill on Late Night with Conan O’Brien or with Jimmy Fallon for that matter. Everything is gone. It’s a drag but what can you do.

He leaves after I sign a paper. There’s no charge for this visit. I turn on the TV a few minutes later. I start adding the favorite channels to the cable box and it’s pixilated again.

I call Cablevision again, speak to someone else again, and I am told that the guy will be back. An hour goes by. And another hour goes by.

I call again, speaking to someone else again and I am told a few instructions. Hit this button. Turn to the left. Now unplug it. Now stand on one leg. Now blink really hard. Turn to channel 500. Hit A-B-B-A on the remote control. You are the dancing queen. Turn it off. Turn it on. Show us your tits Coco.

Nothing had any effect. They tell me the guy has until 8:00PM to show up. It’s 7:04PM now. The clock, it is ticking. Harpy went through something similar with Time Warner a couple of weeks ago. I hope I don’t have the same problems.

In any event, here I sit waiting for someone who may or may not show up. He did call me earlier and I did have his number in my phone records. I texted him a few hours ago, asking if he had an ETA on returning to 616 Park Avenue. Of course it went unanswered.

I have little faith that they would show up. But I will be quite happy to be proven wrong. Again. There are still 50 minutes left.

Perhaps there will be a postscript to this entry. Or perhaps there won’t.

Pump

It’s been a lovely Friday afternoon, from what I can tell by looking out the window. I normally would have been out and about doing something, but no, not today. Apparently while watching the taping of Spectacle with Elvis Costello last night, Bill was home and tried to DVR something.

But the DVR wasn’t working at all. I don’t know if he was trying to record something or watch something that he recorded but he was unable to. By the time I came home last night Bill was fast asleep, snoring since he decided not to wear his sleep apnea mask. (Mask is broken and needs a replacement).

I found out this morning that Bill had arranged for Cablevision to stop by and try to fix the box. Now they might be able to and they might not. They were scheduled to be here between 2PM and 5PM. It’s 6:09 now.

Bill has spoken to them and they said they might be here by 7:00. That means I’ve been waiting for 5 hours. In that regard, it’s true. I have no patience.

I was able to get some things done before 2:00 and I hoped they would get her soon enough. But of course they didn’t. I even saw a cable guy a few doors down when I was running around earlier and I asked him if he was here for 616.

No, he was here for 608. I guess it’s easier to send a few different guys out than have one guy work a certain area. So I sit and wait. And wait. And then wait some more. I know this usually happens to everyone sooner or later, but in this instance I have had no say in the matter.

Bill made these arrangements in my best interest. Since it’s more than likely they won’t be able to fix the box (Bill-optimist. Me- not so much) he didn’t want to turn in the broken box with shows that I have saved for some time now.

Laurie Anderson narrating a documentary on Andy Warhol is probably the oldest recording on it. I’ve seen it once haven’t seen it since, but still you never know when someone with an interest in 20th Century American Artists might stop by and after climbing four flights of steps I’d be more than happy to oblige.

Customer service phoned and said the guy would be here shortly. I asked what is shortly. They said 10 minutes. I said well I’ve been waiting since 2:00. She said well just sit and wait for the bell. I said, ‘that was a brilliant idea. Why didn’t I think of that before?’

She hung up.

True to her word the cable did show up around 10 minutes later. Nice guy, handsome chap. Turns out he hates Cablevision too! He rebooted the cable box with the hitting of a few buttons then for 5 minutes it reset itself and now it’s working fine. And it only took 5.5 hours!

Harpy then called making ‘my phone was on vibrate’ excuses for not answering his cellphone. I suppose when I turn 58. I too will have some authority to not answer my cellphone. Then Julio called while Harpy was yakking away and I took Julio’s call since I hardly ever hear from him.

He was sitting on the stoop telling a neighbor not to throw his empty jug of Dewar’s in the garbage, ‘It’s recyclable’, he yelled. I walked downstairs where the guy hurried down the street. The bottle somehow wound up on the guys stoop a few doors down.

I had printed a dozen fliers for a Gate Sale that I am participating in with Rand and Lois. We did this last year and now we’re doing it this year. I walked up the block and taped the first flier to a telephone pole at 8th and Park.

Walked up to Washington Street and taped a few more fliers until I ran out of tape and wound up buying some crap tape which I wrestled with. Who knew packing tape could stretch so far? Ran out of fliers and retraced my steps, and at 8th and Park the first flier was already torn down.

I knew it might happen anyway.

I did get a call from Annemarie who is treating herself to a B-52’s concert at Humboldt State University. I’m sure she will have a good time, A B-52’s show is always a good dancin’ party!

I can’t wait to hear about it!
